Childbirth Education and Doula Services

Empowering women and their families throughout pregnancy and beyond

Credentials

I am a member of Lamaze, DONA, the Association of Safe Alternatives in Childbirth (ASAC), and the Doula Association of Edmonton (DAE). I am the former chairwoman of the Doula Association of Edmonton (2007-2008), and hold the postpartum doula directors seat on the DAE board of directors. I am a former member of the Lower Mainland’s Childbearing Society, and the Doula Services Association of BC (DSA).

  • I am a Certified Birth Doula and Postpartum doula with Doulas of North America (DONA).
  • I provide information and support that encourages attachment between babies and their families.
  • I am a Certified Lamaze Childbirth Educator teaching private, in-home childbirth education to expectant couples and assisting women and their families to make informed decisions about childbearing, by designing, teaching and evaluating a course in Lamaze preparation that increases a woman's confidence and ability to give birth. I also help women and their families to understand how interventions and complications influence the normal course of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and early parenting.
  • I act as an advocate to promote normal, natural, healthy, fulfilling childbirth experiences for women and their families.
  • I am a former volunteer doula for the Vancouver Coastal Health Region's Youth Pregnancy & Parenting Program (YPPP); a program to assist teen mothers to have a supportive and reassuring birth experience.

I am fluent in American Sign Language. So, I am able to provide professional birth and labour support to hearing as well as Deaf women and their partners.

My main goals are to bring more loving care back into this life-changing event while empowering and assisting women to trust their body’s ability to birth and breastfeed. I provide honest, balanced, evidence-based information to the soon-to-be new parent(s), so choices can be made for their own unique birth and postpartum experiences.  I promote the childbearing experience as normal, natural, and healthy, while assisting women and their families to discover and use strategies that facilitate normal, natural, healthy pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and early parenting.
